Overview

The problem of transnational organized crime is not new, but its scope, scale and spread is unprecedented. It is further challenged by the state-based nature of institutions mandated to respond to transnational crime networks.

Action

The Global Initiative Against Transnational Organised Crime was borne out of a series of high level discussions among officials who concluded that a new initiative was needed to provide a platform to promote better research, greater debate and innovative approaches as the building blocks to an inclusive global strategy against organised crime.

STATT worked behind the scenes on behalf of the network and the donor community, managing the process of drawing stakeholders together and facilitating its strategic direction-finding process, securing seed funding and establishing the myriad back end functions that enable the network to function a legal identity, brand identity, secretariat support and day-to-day management processes.
